To Discern..... To Judge .... How?
I had thoughts about Pharisees when I view denominations and movements. "A pharisee is hard on others and easy on himself, but a spiritual man is easy on others and hard on himself" (A.W. Tozer). Those who similar to Pharisees' attitudes are those who magnifies the faults of those who based others on appearance and diminishes their graces, while they promote their doctrines. So, when we talk about love. I agree its not a doormat based on a human point of view, but rather Agape in God's point of view.
Judging based on appearance and doctrines are man-centered more than God-center. Appearance is one thing but fruit of the Spirit is the other. "You should not judge", is not the same as "fruit inspector", or "discerning true and false teachings". People who don't discern are those who are "ignorance". Its really interesting about people are mixing "judging" and "discerning". Do not have a tunnel vision" based on their teachings alone. You need to look at their whole being.
A.W. Tozer's quote:
Quote:
Materialism, pessimism, cynicism and skepticism were the four horsemen of those gloomy decades and they rode forth conquering and to conquer.
We should all take a long hard look at what things we consider to be important from God's perspective rather than man's perspective.
Every Christian must decide whether they will us their liberty to decide on their doctrinal beliefs. We are free, but our freedom does not mean we can know for SURE what is right and what is wrong. Spiritual liberty means the freedom to be all that we were designed to be, but this is not a freedom that is without restrictions or responsibilities. Grace is about loving other people that we have the freedom to do so but at the same time, respect how they practice their beliefs. In Romans 14:5 "One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind." 1 Corinthians 10:28-29 "both for the sake of the man who told you and for conscience' sake, the other man's conscience, I mean, not yours. For why should my freedom be judged by another's conscience?" Everyone will have different view based on their "convictions". Nothing holy and genuine will be done in someone's life until their will is surrendered in active obedience to the Holy Spirit. This is between the believer and God. As long as our conscience is clear and our heart is pure before God, don't be concerned with minor doctrine issues.
Spiritual matters should be honest and in which we must seek the discernment of the Holy Spirit. We should NOT forget that the Word of God stresses the importance of conviction and concern and repentance when being born from above by the Spirit of God. Whether the posts are "correcting" or "offending" which my only fear is that "offending" has silenced the voices of Christians of discernment and put Christians at the mercy of the undiscerning. Gullibility is not the same as spirituality because spiritually, we are to discern. Holy Spirit through Grace, through faith keeps our hearts open to whatever is of God, and rejects everything that is not of God.
Proverbs 17:24
A discerning man keeps wisdom in view, but a fool's eyes wander to the ends of the earth.
Proverbs 18:15
The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.
Philippians 1:9-11
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
When people are teaching doctrines wrongly, fear is created. God does heal but only according to His will, not ours. Those who are not healed are not at fault. Its not about lack of faith or our sins or "human effort according to measure of faith" or anything like that. If you know someone who is suffering, be careful what we say because your best guess as to the reason for someone's suffering is likely to be way off. God knows the reasons because He is Sovereign. Ecclesiastes 8:17 then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun. Despite all his efforts to search it out, man cannot discover its meaning. Even if a wise man claims he knows, he cannot really comprehend it.
