After God's heart... Holiness....
Concept: “A corrupt tree cannot bring forth good fruit”
Comparison: David and Job - Compare to David, Job should be LISTED as a man's after God's own heart but God chose David.
Proverbs 20:9 says, "Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?" Matthew 5:8 says that those who are pure in heart "shall see God." When my heart is purified by Christ that I will see God. And the purer my heart is the more of God I will see. If I don’t have a regenerate heart, my heart is not worth keeping, and it’s impossible for such a heart to produce any true righteousness.
In the first chapter of Job, in the first part of the first chapter, he’s identified as one of the most righteous, if not the most righteous man on earth—the purist man, the holiest man. Job said when "debating" with his friends “What is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained?". Job knew that it is the heart that is the issue because his friends were telling him, " “Well, this is evidence that you are a sinful man! This is proof positive, Job, that there’s something really rotten in your life—and, obviously, we don’t know about it!”
Where I will have the clearest spiritual sight and where I will be able to serve my God from my heart. If it is in the process of being invested in "God's causes", then that is where my heart is going to be. Where I set my heart is really the critical issue in my spiritual life. It will determine how I perceive everything. If my heart is right and my treasure is toward God, then I am going to have the right kind of spiritual perception. David's close relationship with the Lord caused him to have a broken heart when he sinned (Ps. 51:17). I have a strong desire to be like David because he was a man after God's own heart (1 Samuel 13:14). For two reasons why David was a man after God's own heart:
1. David loved God with all of his heart and always tried to put God first. David honored God above all, including himself.
2. When confronted with sin, David habitually confessed his fault, turned from offense, and sought forgiveness (1 Sam. 25:32-35; 2 Sam. 11:27-12:23; 2 Sam. 24:10-14). David humbled himself and could say to God, "Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight." (Psalm 51:4)
What made David a special man of God was a humble heart that freely admitted faults and continually sought after God. Read: Matthew 5:3-5 and 2 Corinthians 1:3-11.
When a Christian who is saved by the conviction of the Holy Spirit, this Christian is living in a new Creature with holy conscience rather than sinful conscience. As a Christian, I still can have sinful desires, foolish desires, proud desires and at the same time, have godly desires.
Luke 6:45 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.
1 Timothy 1:5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12).
The Word of God is tuned to speak to our inner conscience and demonstrates with spiritual convictions. I want to have the peace of conscience, not war within when I sinned. When I sinned, I am grieving the Holy Spirit; "not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption." (Ephesians 4:30).
Romans 12:9 "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good."
Ephesians 4:24 "and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."
2 Peter 3:11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives.
I know I will never be perfect as long as I live in my sinful body which is why David is my role model, who was never perfect but God announced that David was always after God's heart. God HATES sin and David KNEW that. God meets us in our heart rather than our mind therefore we need to focus on the "heart of the matter". This is my "personal relationship" with God. My concience is what I follow. For a Spiritual Christian, Self is off the throne (self-less), Christ is on it, and the life is all in order. 1 Corinthians 13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. Matthew 22:36-38 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'This is the first and greatest commandment.
Understanding David's HEART
Learning from David's experiences, God meets us in our heart rather than our mind therefore we need to focus on the "heart of the matter". "David son of Jesse is a man after my own heart, for he will do everything I want him to do." Acts 13:22 & 1 Samuel 13:14 (NLT). There are many reasons why God proclaimed that David's heart is what He desire from us.
Many of us are like David. David is remembered as a man after God’s own heart, he was guilty of horrific sin which he committed adultery with Bathsheba, and then conspired to cover his sin with the murder of her husband. One example is this (I learned the most): David who learned that "thinking" leads to sin. David with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11). David woke up from a nap, went for a stroll on the roof of the palace. As he looked out over the city, he noticed a woman taking a bath. Through the eyes of David, enter into his mind, he sees a beautiful naked woman and began thinking about her. I am a man, and I have a GOOD IDEA what he was thinking? David's thinking led him to self-serving which was motivated by lust and envy. This is where God has a problem with me (as well as with many Christians). Reading Psalm 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. David wrote this after prophet Nathan came to him after he had committed adultery with Bathsheba.
Learning from David, I have learned that God loves but He also hates. Psalm 97:10 "Ye who love the LORD, hate evil." Reading Psalms, David used six synonyms to describe Scripture: law, testimony, precepts, commandment, fear, and judgments. David understood that he was chosen by God. 2 Chronicles 6:6 But now I have chosen Jerusalem for my Name to be there, and I have chosen David to rule my people Israel. Why did God chose the Jewish people during the Old Testament time and not the Gentiles? Deuteronomy 7:6 For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people. I have found that God chose unqualified people and what kind of "logic" is that? Here are the example of the GREAT faiths of "unqualified people": Lot got drunk and committed incest. Abraham doubted God and committed adultery. Jacob deceived his father. Moses murdered. Paul (Saul) murdered Christians. God will use ordinary good people as well as ordinary very sinful people to accomplish great things. God will use people who have the life experiences by that will Glorify Him by putting them through the right spiritual directions and teaching them the right spiritual lessons. God knows their hearts and He will honor their search for truth.
God sees and measures the heart more than He sees actions. Our sinful actions were the RESULT of our sinful heart. I also have learned that David was an example of how we are to serve others without demanding our rights.(LOVE) Psalm 27:4 -- David said, "One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to meditate in His temple." David have cried more over things that have happened to other people that he care about than he have ever cried about things that have happened to him. When David is identified with God, the things that break his heart when some dishonor God.
To understand God's love, look at David's love through David's writings.
Spiritual World VERSUS Corrupted World
Every Christian must decide whether they will us their liberty to decide on their moral decisions. We are free, but our freedom must prove a source of real temptation of this world. Human (sinful) society is built upon a balance of personal interests. Selfish personal interest is the motive behind all sinners conduct.
As a Christian, I still can have sinful desires, foolish desires, proud desires and at the same time, have godly desires. God is always convicting my to search my heart to follow my conscience that God have given me. Romans 12:9 (NIV) "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good."
God meets us in our heart rather than our mind therefore we need to focus on the "heart of the matter". Every wrong act or practice begins with a "thought".
How can I distinguish my desires? Sinners (even though I am saved) I am not basically good without Christ in me because I live in body that carries sin and my struggle will be in the core of my heart. Obviously, my human heart is very selfish. My heart is the source of my emotions, thoughts and motives. My heart is the place of conscience. My heart is the part of my being where I desire, deliberate, and decide. I just have to know what God wants and if I don't glorify correctly, my spiritual actions will be worthless. My self-interest motives conduct even though it is part of my fallen nature, is sinful and if I am not careful as I did during my prodigal days, it is very destructive and can lead to tragic. The real danger is that someone may overlook self-interest motive for human conduct and go on serving our own interests under a disguise of godliness. And that is a mistake that I cannot afford to make. My mistakes of the past are learned mistakes and I am not going let myself overwhelmed over those mistakes. I am going to keep my mistakes in my thoughts, learn from them and do my best not to them again in the future. Scriptures states that my own interests before God is sin, in God's point of view. The Word of God exposed the sin of self-interest and that I am to live God-centered and others-centered life. If I am seeking God out of my own selfishness (self-interest) other than my personal salvation with Jesus Christ is a form of idolatry which is sin. I need to guard myself and be on the watch against any visible and invisible objects of worship that belongs only to God. The cross is a symbol of the selfless, others-centered life of Christ. Love alone can make my conduct acceptable to God. My motives in my Christian life should be both holy and genuine. When I am involved in ministries, my Christian service motive is important to God because it is motive that gives to every holy act that Glorifies God.
I do ENJOY the world that GOD has created but I do not enjoy the world that Satan has corrupted.
